We appreciate all players at all ages

Gregson Lane JFC was founded in 1975 with the intention of allowing as many people to play football as possible. We have continued to do this thanks to the dedication and hard work of our officials, coaches, sponsors, players and parents
The club entered its first team into a formal league in the 1975-76 season with our under 14’s. The club has grown from this one team to our current — teams across — leagues. As a club are proud of our history of supporting new leagues and have been amongst the first clubs to compete in many local leagues
Our mission has always been to allow as many people as possible to play football. This has really been the reason that the club has grown as we have expanded into new age groups and more recently, formed girls teams we have continued to see the positive impact that football can have on young lives.
We are a club that is firmly rooted in our local community, we work hard to bring people together through football, building longstanding connections that reach far beyond the game.

Always striving for the best

We aim to provide fun training sessions whilst focussing on the principles of the game.

David Lee

Former player who went on to play for Bolton

I have the fondest memories of playing for Gregson Lane.
We played on a Sunday morning at  Brindle Road .
We had to put the netting up before the game ,and take it down after ,  change in a small prefabricated shed with no electricity or running water .
I absolutely loved every minute of it .
Our manager John Bacon was brilliant with us .
As a group we shared so much enthusiasm win lose or draw .
The grounding I had as a player with Gregson Lane , to this day has kept my feet firmly on the ground and made me appreciate everything I ever achieved in professional football .
From playing at Brindle Road on a cold Sunday morning to playing at Wembley in a major cup final  or being challenged in Premier League  gave me the same enthusiasm for every encounter .
Gregson Lane football club has and always will have a very  special in place in my heart.

Nigel Greenwood

Former player who went on to play for PNE

As a local boy, Nigel started at GLJFC and became a product of the Preston North End youth system Nigel made his debut as a seventeen-year-old in a league game away at Lincoln City. Nigel played for Bury, Halifax and returned to Preston scoring 48 goals in 2010.

Andy Bayes

Former player who went on to be the BBC radio Lancashire’s sports editor.

I started playing for Gregson Lane in the summer of 1990.  We started out as a team made up almost entirely of Gregson Lane, Coupe Green and St Josephs Primary School kids who played cubs football together and then progressed as a team.

We had some great coaches over the years, Dave Hitchen, Howard Wilkinson, Peter Holme, Roger McDonald all gave up their time at various stages to manage the team.  Only now do I realise, having been a coach for 5 years of a girls team, just how much goes in to it.  We also had a brilliant chairman in Frank Thompson, who put so many hours in to keep the club going.  Likewise Peter Holme did a lot of work that goes unseen.

I don’t remember us being particularly brilliant in terms of results but we had a good time.  The team broke up quite early and a lot of us went our separate ways.  I still speak to some of the lads from back then quite regularly (Ian Holme mostly), others you bump in to after years of not seeing them and carry on from where you left off.

It’s great to see a brilliant club reach 50 years.  I’m proud to have been part of it.

Congratulations, Gregson Lane JFC.
